What to Do
If you’re traveling in from out of town, there is so much to do in and around Brooklyn! As a couple, over the past 7 years we have made it our mission to eat at as many Eater restaurants as we can in New York and beyond. Check out the list or try out some of our favorites! One of our other favorite things to do in NYC is to catch a Broadway show. We’ve included our faves plus some tips & tricks for getting tickets.
EAT: Win Son
If you know us, you know we love Win Son. Win Son, a Taiwanese American restaurant just a block from our apartment, offers some of the best and most consistent food you’ll find in NYC. We are regulars and try to go at least once a week. Our favorite dishes are marinated cucumbers, pork buns, and lu rou fan. Don’t forget donuts at Win Son bakery across the street!
EXPLORE: Broadway
Adam and I have seen dozens of Broadway shows together, and if you’re in town we’d love for you to enjoy one!
Tips for discounted tickets:
TDF: If someone in your group is 30 or under, retired, self-employed, working for a non-profit, or more, you can purchase a year-long membership to TDF for $30 and get discounted tickets and great seats for many Broadway shows! Note, the super popular shows won’t be on here, but there are some great ones!
TKTS: If you have some time, head to the TKTS booth in Times Square the day you want to see a show and choose from many shows with affordable, last-minute seats.
Some of our favorite shows on right now include Shucked, Hadestown, Wicked, and Book of Mormon.
EAT: K’Farr
K’Farr, which means “village” in Hebrew, comes from Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook, the restaurateurs behind Philadelphia’s award-winning Israeli restaurants Zahav and Laser Wolf. K’Farr is on the ground level below Brooklyn’s Laser Wolf, and offers a full-service restaurant, bar, and cafe. It’s perfect for pastries and brunch or dinner, if you can’t snag a reservation at Laser Wolf.
EXPLORE: The Parks
Summer is a great time to explore New York City and spend some time outdoors, plus the parks are free!
McCarren Park: McCarren Park is the closest park to our venue and our apartment! We love to walk here on nice days to meet up with friends in the park.
Domino Park: If you’re looking to stroll along the water, Domino Park in Brooklyn is a fun area to soak in the skylines and there are many shops and restaurants nearby.
Prospect Park: Prospect Park is a bit farther into Brooklyn, but here you will find the wonderful Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Entrance costs money, but you can easily spend hours here.
Central Park: Of course, the largest park in NYC is in Manhattan. If you’ve never been, it is definitely worth a trip in on the subway.
EAT: Yellow Rose
Venturing into Manhattan? We absolutely love Yellow Rose, one of the few Tex Mex places in New York where you can find delicious beer queso and flavorful taco combinations. You can easily get here off the L train. Order beer queso with chips, and one of everything on their specials menu.
EXPLORE: Other
Some of our other favorite things to do in NYC:
BrookLAN: Brooklyn’s premier eSports bar has everything, from board games or video games to amazing grilled cheese and fun cocktails. Plus, we are investors and happen to be pretty close to the owner ;)
Rooftop Reds: Try some wine at one of Brooklyn’s rooftop wineries
Yankees or Mets: Catch a baseball game at the Yankees or Mets stadium, where Adam and I have enjoyed many fun days!
The Beach: If you have time, you can visit one of New York’s beaches by train or car. Rockaway Beach, Jacob Riss, or Long Beach are some of our favorites.
